It’s Time To Add Alexa To Your Smart Home Appliances. Here’s Why

Keen on having a smart assistant in your space? Look no further. The Amazon Echo Dot 4th Generation is here to attend to your daily tech needs.

While Amazon may get more attention and hype for its higher-end Echo speakers like the Echo Studio, the Echo Dot, according to experts, is by far the most accessible and popular device in the lineup. And we can see why. Now with a redesigned build, the 4th Gen Echo has all the necessary features of its siblings, but for half the price. Plus points for that!

If it’s your #goal to have Alexa in every room in your house, getting the 4th Gen Echo Dot is the most pocket-friendly route.

New design

The most glaring difference in the new 4th Gen Echo Dot is its spherical design. It’s now a 3.9-inch ball that’s covered in half plastic and half fabric and comes in light blue, dark gray, and white colorways.

There are four physical buttons for volume up, volume down, activating Alexa, and turning the mic off. Once turned on, the blue light ring at the bottom shows when Alexa’s tuning in to your voice commands. At the back, you’ll find a power adapter and 3.5mm audio output for connecting your Dot to a larger, powerful speaker.

Better sound

While you can amp up the Dot’s audio quality through another speaker, its standalone sound output is still pretty decent. As far as tech reviews go, they confirm it’s better-sounding than the 3rd Gen model. Placed in a small room, the 4th Gen Dot Echo can fill up the space immediately, which makes it a great companion for when you want to listen to music, audiobooks, and podcasts—or if you want to simply interact with trusty Alexa.

Hey, Alexa!

Of course, before you can use the Dot, setting up Alexa is key. That means downloading the Alexa app on your smartphone, plugging in your Dot, and following setup prompts. With the 4th Gen Dot, several enhancements have been made to make interacting with Alexa even more seamless.

You can now name and group all your Echo products within your home. A fun experiment to try? Say “Alexa, play *insert your choice music here*” and all your Echo Dots will happily and simultaneously oblige. Neat, huh?

There’s also a Communicate Tab in the Alexa app, which lets you make announcements. Saying “I’m home,” will let you browse ‘skills’ on your Dot, and Alexa can then, say, play music to help you relax and unwind after a long day at work.

Alexa also got an upgrade in this 4th generation. She sounds less muffled than in previous iterations and now has clearer and crisper diction, which makes “talking” to her all the more fun.

Our final takeaway

With a solid build, improved Alexa responses, and enhanced audio quality, the 4th Gen Echo Dot is our choice for a pocket-friendly voice assistant. And the new shape makes a lot of sense for a product named ‘Dot.’
