When you want to hit the open road, you’d want a pair of daily runners that checks all the right boxes. After all, it doesn’t take much equipment to take up running, you just need a really good pair of trainers to get you going.

Problem is, with so many innovative and stylish options abound in the market, it can be tricky to find the perfect fit—something that’s comfy (with dreamy cushioning, please) and lightweight; can be worn as a sneaker on slower days; and can last you for a couple of years.

Enter the Adidas Ultraboost 22. Now the Ultraboost 22s are probably more popular as a sneaker than a running shoe, thanks in part to its show-stopping streetwear cred, but it can actually be a heavy-duty trainer for long and easy runs alike. And it’s easily one of the most comfortable pairs produced and sold by Adidas.

Max comfort

The men’s Adidas Ultraboost 22 only got an upper update from its predecessor, the Ultraboost 21, but Adidas has put a lot of thought and care into the construction of the Ultraboost line that we recommend you spring for a new pair for a ’softer’ but still stable ride.

Softer, eh? The Ultraboost 22’s BOOST midsole is the stuff of cushioning dreams, with some people reporting that it resembles clouds. Coupled with a Linear Energy Push System and a 5.8mm Continental™ Rubber outsole, the Ultraboost 22 delivers comfort and responsiveness in every step.

Fun fact: Continental™ is a German company that manufactures car tires. So yes, they know their way around rubber. And having them provide the outsole of the 22s means the shoe has some serious grip and traction.

Subtle tweaks

The Ultraboost 22 now sports a tighter upper for a snug and secure fit, but still stretchy enough. One of the welcome benefits of a ‘restrictive’ upper is excellent lockdown especially when paired with lacing that the 22 boasts. FYI—lockdown means no excessive movement of your feet within your shoes.

Adidas has also redesigned the 22’s plastic mid foot cage, making it a more stable pair than the 21. This refresh alongside with the upgraded upper make for a much more stable ride—whether you’re pounding the pavement, going downhill, or just running on your treadmill. No heel slippage here!

Sustainable efforts

If you’re out and about on most days or hitting the gym on the daily, you’d know that it’s easy to go through your shoes pretty quickly. So it makes sense to shop for a pair that’ll also have minimal impact on the environment.

Lucky for us, the Adidas Ultraboost 22’s also easy on its carbon footprint. The uppers are made with a high-performance yarn, which contains at least 50% Parley Ocean Plastic and 50% recycled polyester.

Parley Ocean Plastic is reimagined plastic waste that’s intercepted on remote islands, beaches, coastal communities, and shorelines. Adidas and Parley started collaborating back in 2016, bringing awareness to threats facing the marine environment to a global audience.

According to Adidas, partnering with Parley Ocean Plastic in crafting the 22s is “just one of the innovations that represent our commitment to help end plastic waste.”

Final takeaway

The Ultraboost 22 is a max-cushioned trainer that’s durable, environmentally sound, and the stuff of athleisure fashion. While it’s still mostly seen as a casual trainer by most pro runners, you can definitely work this pair in a shoe rotation—on days when you’re taking it easy and opting for longer yet relaxed outings.

One thing’s for sure, though: It’s definitely an upgrade from the 21s in our books.

Great news: The Adidas Ultraboost 22 (Legacy Indigo / Blue Rush / Turbo) is 30% off until October 31. Get it for only P6,650 from its original retail price of P9,500 (that saves you P2,850!) at SM City Davao.
