Look Good While Saving The Earth With This Vibrant Capsule Collection

In the recently concluded Miss Universe tilt, Filipino-American winner R’Bonney Gabriel put the spotlight on using “fashion as a force for good” as her main advocacy. In our side of the world, local clothing brand Bayo’s taking that lead as well, making sustainability as the central theme for their wearable creations.

The 30-year-old homegrown fashion brand has recently tapped Ella Pangilinan for a “regenerative” collection that also celebrates our cultural sensibilities. Pangilinan is a 26-year-old creative consultant and influencer who comes from a family of local entertainers. ICYDK—she’s the eldest daughter of Anthony Pangilinan and Maricel Laxa and the “ate” of Donny Pangilinan.

Aesthetic-wise, Pangilinan is known for her refined, feminine style that triumphs classic and lady-like silhouettes, and is also a supporter of local designs and “rented fashion.” Pangilinan’s own creative and design philosophy mirrors Bayo’s—and the result is a partnership geared towards using sustainable and eco-friendly fabrics and textiles.

From nature

Launched last December 8, the Bayo x Ella Collection is a 15-piece capsule wardrobe that’s fresh, vibrant, intricate, and textured. All clothing items from this collaboration use discarded fabrics, recycled materials, cotton, and piña (pineapple leaves).

Like this pair of lively yellow Ella Santan Fringe Top at P2,595 and matching ‘skort’ that’s crafted with deadstock and collected pineapple leaves. The piña is given new life and generated into a sustainable textile that’s naturally durable and unique in texture. The coordinates are also made with cotton and are then finished off with a tropical Santan design.

Fun, versatile, and very wearable

Although the Bayo x Ella Collection’s primarily made with eco-friendly fabrics using sustainable methods, there’s nothing boring and lackluster about the garments. Sustainability doesn’t necessarily mean minimalist, as evidenced in the floral-printed and Santan-inspired pieces that highlight Filipino weaves and patterns.

Some ‘fits include a bow-shoulder top cut from lightweight blend cotton and linen that’s embroidered with low-impact, colored OEKO-TEX certified threads (aka threads that have been tested for harmful substances) also starring the Santan and a pair of pants made with a cotton-blend fabric and printed on using a sustainable water-based technology.

All pieces were created to be worn on the daily, mixed and matched, and repeated—with the collaboration wanting us to unlearn the stigma of outfit repeating or re-wearing and to embrace giving second-life (or more) to clothes instead.

With playful, functional pieces, wraparound skirts, and spirited separates helming the Bayo x Ella Collection and sustainability at its heart, we’re pretty sure you won’t be so quick to ditch these clothes to begin with.
