4 Ways To Celebrate Valentine’s Day No Matter Your Relationship Status

Share

While Valentine’s Day is now known for lots of kissing, gifts, and hard-to-get dinner reservations, its history goes all the way to the end of the 5th century and is far less romantic (srsly). But, we’re not breaking it down here (you can just Google it up if you’re curious), instead, we’re here to show you how you can spend V-Day like any other holiday—with yourself, your besties, and your fam. And if you’re part of a couple (yay you!), we’ve got something for you, too.

Single or not, you can own this day to do 👏 all 👏 the👏 things 👏. The fun starts when you head on over to SM Deals’ official Facebook page for a chance to win P2,000 worth of restaurant gift certificates and other cool prizes until month-end.

Lotsa lovin’

Go to the ‘Let the Dice Decide’ giveaway post and pause to take a screencap of the prize the dice has landed on. Answer the question: “If you win, who would you like to share the prize with?”. There’s no wrong or right answer here, trust us—you can pick yourself, your fave pal, a family member, or your SO.

Done? Download a free mobile wallpaper that corresponds to your answer and post on your Facebook story while tagging SM Deals and two of your bffs. It’s just our fun, little way to spread some good ol’ lovin’ in all shapes or forms this season.

Saving these oh-so-cute wallpapers on your phone is as easy as 1, 2, 3! Just press the wallpaper of your choice and click 'Add to Photos' for iPhone users or 'Download image' if you have an Android.

Self-love, baby

That lovin’ applies to yourself. Whether you’re spending the 14th happily unattached or away from your partner, you should absolutely use it as an opportunity to ensure you feel loved, inspired, and cared for—however that might look like for you.

“New year, more me” can be your mantra this 2023. Perhaps some Valentine’s Day self-care looks like getting yourself a bouquet of flowers, having an all-day movie marathon spent buried in a pillow and cozy sheets while snacking on some munchies, or booking that much-deserved mani-pedi or spa appointment followed by a reservation at your fave restaurant. You totally deserve it. You should celebrate you—on your own terms.

Galentine’s, here we go

If going solo doesn’t work for you, it’s time to call in the troops aka your best buddies. Throw in a spicy ‘fit and gather all the single ladies (or gents) for a Galentine’s ala Parks and Recreation—a day all about declaring love and affection to the girls or guys who make up your ultimate support system.

Some activities to do? Have a chill wine night and turn on a rom-com flick with some popcorn in tow, sing at the top of your lungs at karaoke, or swing by a cafe or a dessert bar for a sweet, sweet time.

The fam’s got you!

V-Day’s also a great time to spend time with your kids, sibs, and parental units and shower them with love. It’s not just a day for romantic relationships after all. The best way to celebrate with your ride-or-die support system is to gather ‘round over a great meal. Whether you’ve reserved a table at your go-to dining spot or ordered in for the night, a memorable meal together will make your whole fam involved.

Is gift-giving your love language? Now’s the perfect time to rethink presents. If you must buy a gift, choose one (or two) that spells gratitude, fondness, and trust. It doesn’t need to just impress. Think gift certificate for a back rub or a foot massage or for their fave restaurant—with a personal note that says how much you adore them.

Go beyond tradition—or create new ones

Planning an exciting experience on the 14th is a surefire way to truly show how you feel about your SO beyond the standard chocolates or flowers. A fancy brunch or dinner is always a great idea, but you’ve to keep it fresh at some point (especially when you’ve been together for a couple of years already).

Get creative and pull all the stops this year. A simple stroll to your go-to coffee shop will work wonders—spend time just talking and reminiscing over a cup of joe and some pastries. If the weather’s real nice, take your coffee al fresco and find outdoor seating to cozy up on.

You can also get a couples massage—some TLC is well-deserved. Or shop some cookware together and whip up a special meal with your sweetie. If you want to skip cooking, order a takeout food feast; pick up dinner from your favorite takeout spot—or, better yet, get a variety of eats from a handful of your go-to dining joints.

There’s plenty of things to do on the 14th to up the love and romance—whether you’re single (or casually dating) or otherwise. Over the years, the meaning of Valentine’s Day has changed and evolved to whatever we want it to be. And that’s actually the fun part—you can skip the celebrations altogether or just express your love and appreciation to the people who matter to you the most (yourself included) in the best and most thoughtful way you know how.
